News roundup for January 2024

I must start with the acknowledgement and appreciation of  Sylvia Brown, a community trust member/volunteer for many years. She has been prominent regarding fundraising over the years , her folk nights and involvement in the 500 club being a testament to this. Sadl , Sylvia has had to step down as a community trust member due to recent poor health and will be missed by all the committee members.

As for an update regarding the village hall and playing field I can confirm we will be having the Fascia/soffit boards and guttering replaced on the hall in the early spring.

Planning for the new multi use games area will hopefully be applied for early next year now that we have had a preliminary ecological appraisal done.

We have also accepted a quote to have lines painted defining the optimum amount of spaces possible on our existing car park .

News roundup for July 2023

As always with the Trust, there has been a lot going on in the background that doesn’t get reported, so here’s an update.

Good news, we have decided not to make any increases to the rates for hiring the hall and grounds. It’s still great value for that event or gathering you were planning, so book today.

On wednesday 16th August at 7:00pm we are doing a spot of maintenance. We are also getting quotes to replace the soffits and facias around the hall.

We have another folk night on August 19th. Pop along on Saturday to see Noah’s Cape. Doors open at 7:00pm act starts at 7:30pm. Tickets £12 on sale now at the Aston Repair Depot.

The football club is hoping to update and refurb the changing rooms before the start of the next season.

Muga update – Sport England have approved the project. We are still waiting for final approval from the District Council.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

On Saturday 4th June our village hall and the recreation grounds were host to the Jubilee Fete. A great turnout, despite the poor weather ensured that this event was a huge success.

Highlights were the Lancaster Bomber flypast, the children’s activities, tug-of-war, the tombola and superb bar. Thanks to all the volunteers for making this day great fun for all.

Live music returns to Aston & Cote Village Hall

On Saturday 9th April, we enjoyed the return of Folk Night to Aston and Cote, with fabulous performances from Craig McLearie, Brock & Vixen, and at the lastminute, Toots and Fraser.

Unfortunately, Three Pressed Men were unable to make it due to COVID-19 – we hope to see them next time.

Many thanks to all the performers, including our very own Sylvia Brown who at the end took to the stage with the musicians for a moving rendition of the 1969 classic Will Ye Go Lassie Go. More than 70 folk fans joined us, and the event raised over £500 for the upkeep of the village hall. Look out for the further dates coming soon.

Thank you John Ordish

23 January 2022

At the Parish Meeting on 8th November, we were pleased to reveal the new name for our small function room.

The room has been named in honour of John Ordish, who has made a significant and enduring contribution to our village hall and the wider community over many decades.

Thank you John, and enjoy your retirement!

Village Hall Refresh Continues

4 December 2021

Improvements to Aston and Cote Village Hall continue, with the installation of a new floor and blinds in the main hall.

Users may recall issues with the old wooden floor rising due to the level of moisture in the hall. We have had the floor base improved and the new ‘wood effect’ vinyl planks should not suffer the same problem. We’ve also replaced the old curtains with new blinds and given the whole room a lick of paint.

It all adds up to a big improvement.
